Just a note, though, from a retired apple-grower's daughter: that Cox will never fruit unless there is a pollinator tree nearby. If there's not one in the garden already, you need to plant a crab apple tree.
Thank you! The jam is nearly finished now, which means waiting nearly a whole year to make more. Next time I'll know to make a bigger batch! I never knew that about Cox's, thank you! We don't have any other fruit trees in the garden, so we'd need to get one planted. That never would have occurred to me! Very handy info, much appreciated.

You're very welcome. I'm always a little bit nervous about giving advice, because I'm sure everyone knows what I'm saying already, so I'm pleased to have helped. Whether you choose a crab apple or another productive tree, it will need to be what's called a Group 3 pollinator. There are cookers and eaters in that group, as well as crabs, all gorgeous in their own right.
